Homework + Summer study project 2012

Your homework tasks will be posted on this page each week.  It is essential that you check at least twice a week to see what tasks you have been given.  Post you homework on the blog underneath the task - your teacher will print off and mark your work and return it to you as quickly as possible.  To post onto the homework sheet you will need a 'blog' account which is provided through Google.  Go to: www.blogspot.com and sign up for an account.  You can then log into the Product Design pages and post your homework.

SUMMER PROJECT:

The following sheets/tasks need to be completed as part of you summer project.  The tasks will prepare you for the start of Yr13. 




TASK 1: for submission during the 1st lesson of Yr13




"Look at the design in context page on this site.  Choose two design movements and compare and contrast their styles and philosophies.  The design movements should be two of the following:

Arts and Crafts
Art Nouveau
Art Deco
Bauhaus
Modernism
Streamlining
Memphis
Post Modernism

Your finished homework task should be around two sides of A4 (typed at 11 point).  Remember you need to compare and contrast the two movements NOT just write a description of both.  Ask yourself the following questions:

Are there similarities between the styles?
What dates are most commonly associated with the styles?
Is there a common origin of each style?
Was one style a result of another or as a reaction to another?

Think carefully about how you can structure your response - marks will be deducted for poor spelling and grammar.

TASK 2:

Select the sheet on biotechnology below and print it - using the Internet research biotechnology related to the genetic engineering of trees and biodegradable polymers (plastics).  Fill in the blanks on the sheet.
